After a lot of recent upset and the fallout from the EGM earlier in the year, the new Chair of the dot UK Registry Nominet, Andy Green, has now announced a vision for the future that includes a much larger commitment to public benefit and while not exactly a commitment to be a ‘not for profit’ company that some members hoped, at least a return to concentrating on the core business of domain services and operating the .uk registry – something they now call a ‘public benefit company’ – with more investment in the core systems, a move away from some of the expansion plans and retreating from some non-core activities, as well as a commitment to greatly increase public benefit activities.
This is a new chapter in the development of Nominet and it sounds a good start for the board that we can only hope follows through into a better relationship with the Members and a more positive future than of late .
